"WE BELIEVE IN ONE HOLY, CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH"
ORDINARY TIME
The term Ordinary Time was first used with the liturgical reforms which followed the Second Vatican Council. The reformed liturgical calendar took effect on the first Sunday of Advent in 1969. Before this there were two distinct seasons known as the season after Epiphany and the season after Pentecost respectively.
With the Monday after Pentecost, we begin the VIII Week in Ordinary Time and continue through Saturday afternoon before the first Sunday of Advent (violet), some five to six months later, always including the entire months of July, August, September and October and most or all of June and November (some years include small portions of May and December). The last Sunday before Advent is celebrated as the Solemnity of Christ the King (white) and always takes the place of the 34th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
This part of Ordinary Time is marked by two great Feasts: Trinity Sunday (May 30) and Corpus Christi (either June 3 or June 6, depending on whether it is transferred to the following Sunday).
